THE TRELAWNY Principals Association is urging the Ministry of Education to take steps to prevent any recurrence elsewhere of the attack by vendors on the principal of the St. Ann's Bay Primary School, Rupert Brown.
At a meeting last Thursday, they noted that while they are not fundamentally opposed to vendors being at school gates, in recent times many have become a law unto themselves and had become abusive, unco-operative troublemakers.
They noted that some teachers were intimidated by these vendors and as such allowed them free reign. They reiterated that many vendors were good but insisted that some needed to be controlled.
Meanwhile, they are also pressing the Jamaica Teachers' Association to activate its Action Committee to expedite a settlement in negotiations with the Government for salary increases.
According to them the long drawn-out negotiations were having a negative impact on education.
