THE EDITOR, Sir:
I WAS quite pleased to see The Gleaner continuing with its tradition of highlighting the achievement of Jamaicans both here and aboard. The front page of The Sunday Gleaner had one and the Outlook magazine had another. It gives me great hope and assurance that the vast majority of Jamaicans are decent people, who given the opportunity, will channel their energies into positive achievements.
Too bad the overseas press is quick to highlight the few misguided Jamaicans in their midst, while seemingly spending little time on Jamaicans and their contributions to their countries. For decades we have been helping to build those great First World countries and I am sure the majority of Jamaicans there are doing more good than harm.
The overseas press should follow The Gleaner's example and give more time to the majority of hard-working, decent Jamaicans who work to build their countries.
I also hope that our leaders will take note of what Jamaicans can do if the vast creative energies of its people are harnessed and guided in the right way. I listened recently with delight to 'Nationwide' about how some of the overseas recruitment agencies like the attitude of Jamaicans to work. It figures, they keep returning for more!
I am, etc.,
