JAMAICA'S World Cup hero Theodore Whitmore was yesterday named in a national squad for the first time since May of last year.
The 30-year-old Seba United midfielder, who last represented Jamaica against Nigeria in a friendly played in London, England was included in a squad of 25 Jamaica-based players to continue preparation for a game against the United States on February 12. Besides the inclusion of Whitmore, what was also noticeable about the squad was the absence of his club-mate and fellow World Cup veteran Ian Goodison.
Goodison, who captained Jamaica to their 2-1 win in the 1998 World Cup over Japan in a game which saw Whitmore scoring twice, was named in a squad to train last week but did not turn up. Harbour View super substitute Nicholas McCreath was also invited to the squad.
End of second round finalists Hazard United had most players on the squad with eight with Arnett Gardens coming next with five. Harbour View had three players, Village United, Reno FC and Seba United had two each.
Tivoli Gardens, Wadadah FC and Rivoli United had one player each while Waterhouse who are set to meet Hazard United in the end of second round final failed to get a player in the squad. Waterhouse captain Irvino English, a regular at such camps, found no favours with the coaching staff this time.
Squad: Fabian Taylor, Robert Scarlett, Nicholas McCreath (Harbour View); Donovan Ricketts, Shane Crawford (Village United); Aaron Lawrence, Denzil Mitchell (Reno FC); Linval Dixon, Claude Davis, Omar Daley, Roen Nelson, Kevin Deerr, Wolry Wolfe, Shawn Sawyers, Tyrone Sawyers, Kasai Hinds (Tivoli Gardens), Oneil Dunn, Jonathan Williams, Gerald Neil, Wayne Ellis, Shane Stevens (Arnett Gardens); Lacon Brissett (Wadadah); Theodore Whitmore, Denton Vidal (Seba United) and Allien Whittaker (Rivoli).
