published: Saturday | January 25, 2003

WESTERN BUREAU:

A NUMBER of outstanding results are expected today at the STETHS/ Alpart Invitational Classic that will be held in Santa Cruz, starting at 9:30am.

Despite the staging of the second annual Grace Jackson Development Meet at the Stadium East facilities in Kingston, the STETHS meet has attracted a number of schools from across the island including top girls schools Edwin Allen Comprehensive, St Andrew Technical, Vere Technical High, Christiana High and Holmwood Technical High.

The Michael Dyke-trained Edwin Allen girls dominated last Saturday's Sports Plus/ Howard Jackson Memorial Relays in Morant Bay but are expected to get stiff challenge from Holmwood today.

Today's meet will see competition in flat events over regulation distances including 200, 400, 800 and 1500 metres in all four classes for boys and girls as well as field events including long and high jumps, discuss and shot put.

Meet Director Eldemire Smith also confirmed entries for Ardenne High, Cornwall College, Munro, William Knibb, Ferncourt High, St Thomas Technical, Herbert Morrison Comprehensive, and Mannings School.

The Boys Class One and Two and Girls Class One and Two 200 and 400 metres events should be the main attractions at the meet with a number of top athletes expected to take part.

World Junior Games triple medalist and CARIFTA and CAC Games double record holder Usain Bolt is expected to run in both Class One 200m and 400m.
