Brian McKnight to return on Valentine's Day
published: Wednesday | January 29, 2003

ON FEBRUARY 14, romance will probably be in the air. Many women and men will take to wearing red and white, there will be presents, gift baskets and other tokens of affection. Love ought to find a home in many hearts. It is therefore not surprising that events set for that Friday will zero-in on love.

Not to be left out, Danlejon will be producing 'Back At One', featuring Brian McKnight. Since, and including, his self-titled debut album, McKnight has made love his business. His albums include I Remember You, Anytime, and Back At One, for which the concert is named. McKnight's work has also been featured on several movie soundtrack's including Life, Jason's Lyric and The Prince of Egypt.

Organisers revealed that though Jamaicans have heard no new material from McKnight in a few years, he should still prove to be quite a draw.

Lisa-Ann O'Gilvie of Caribbean Events Group pointed out that McKnight has the kind of repertoire which does not have to depend on currency. She related to The Gleaner that with his string of hits, McKnight should be able to thrill the audience, even without current chart hits. McKnight's chart-toppers include Anytime, Crazy Love, 6-8-12 and One Last Cry.

'Back at One' was launched in the Bellasario Suite at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston on Monday night and will take place on the lawns of the Jamaica House.

Two local acts To-Isis and Claudette Miller are scheduled to open the show.

The former performed at the launch on Monday and demonstrated that they are worthy of their selection to open for the internationally famous crooner. They performed three songs which were beautifully presented, proving that they are more than just a motley crew of young men.

The seven-member group recently released their debut single, Ghetto Pain.

Cabaret performer Miller, who has been entertaining with her revue featuring back-up singers and dancers, will also perform before the main act. Although Miller attended the launch she did not perform. However, taking a brief turn at the microphone, she promised would-be audience members that she has something special in store for them.

The launch was hosted by Norma Brown-Bell who will also co-host 'Back At One'. One of the original FAME FM flowers, Brown-Bell will share the Back At One Stage with FAME prince François St. Juste.

Organisers revealed that The Jamaica Society for the Blind will benefit from part-proceeds for the event.

Tickets for the event come in three categories. Those who wish to be in the general population will pay either $1,500 pre-sold or $2,000 at the gate. The reserved section carries a price tag of $2,500 and for those who want to be really close to the performers, the cost will be $3,500 for the VIP section. These patrons will get a little something extra for their money in the form of three complimentary drinks.
