In support of a J'can visa
published: Wednesday | January 29, 2003
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I REFER to the letter from Dr. Purcel Anderson entitled "Let's impose a visa too" published in the January 22, 2003 issue of The Gleaner. I fully endorse Dr. Anderson's comments, and hope the Government of Jamaica will demonstrate the moral courage, and exercise its sovereign right to reciprocate in kind.
As a Jamaican-American living in the USA, I find it frustrating having to be confronted by colleagues with the disgraceful behaviour of some Jamaicans living in other countries including here in the USA. I am, however, convinced that such Jamaicans are by far in the minority. The majority of Jamaicans living abroad have contributed greatly to the communities, professions, and cultures in which they opperate abroad. Let us not be unmindful of that fact. There is no reason for us to hang our heads and allow our country and people to be used as door mats.
