THE EDITOR, Sir:
IT IS now four years since myself and Mr. Mark Brooks began to publicise the fact that the Sugar Industry would collapse, if nothing was done to correct the disease problem.
The powers that be, buried their heads in the sand instead of the ROOTS and claimed that we were talking nonsense.
Unfortunately we were correct. Jamaica has recently finished the worst sugar crop in recent history and are about to set a new record for an even worse one.
An industry that we are ideally suited to prosper in, that can earn a large amount of foreign exchange, create reasonable profits for investors and pay workers respectable wages, is all but dead.
All of this could have been averted and the decline can still, at this late date be halted.
Why won't our lords and masters wake up?
I am, etc.,
