Holy Childhood's race against time

THE EDITOR, Sir:
THANK YOU for publishing the beautiful article about Holy Childhood High School's efforts to raise funds for an ailing parent. We are, however, in a race against time as the parent's doctor says he may not live longer than a month if he does not get help. Kirklyn Williams, the parent, needs heart surgery but he cannot be accommodated at the Cardiac Unit at the University Hospital as they have only 12 beds and there is a long waiting list. His doctor says that he is likely to die before his turn comes.
The Maimonedes Centre in the United States is willing to accommodate him as was mentioned in your article, but he needs US$20,000 to pay for the surgery. He is not able to work, and medical care has already gobbled up what money he had. Members of his family are trying but so far his chances look slim.
The Holy Childhood family students, teachers, and parents are going flat out, with fund-raisers as was mentioned in your story. The students who may not have extra funds are even encouraged to save $20 per day (not per week as your article stated) and contribute it towards this project.
We need help, however. I am, therefore, appealing to any of your readers who can do so, to assist us. I say to them, as I have said to the students, imagine how it would feel if your loved one died, because you could not afford to pay for treatment. Cash may be brought in to the school. Cheques may be made payable to the Holy Childhood High School Cardiac Fund. We will come and collect the donation if it is not convenient for the donor to send it to the school.
Persons who wish us to pick up their donation may call 908-0705, 908-0706, 908-0707. Again, thank you for publishing the story.
