THE $180-MILLION renovation project on the North Gully in Montego Bay is progressing steadily, despite the inclement weather plaguing the resort town in recent days.
Stephen Shaw, communications officer with the Western Regional Office of the National Works Agency said that repairs were taking place in the Green Pond/Capital Heights and Rose Mount areas, and work would commence at the King Street Fording within another seven days.
"Repairs to the King Street fording should start next week. So far the contractors have been widening channels and clearing debris from sections of the gully in the Green Pond/Capital Heights area," Mr. Shaw said.
"Repairs will also be carried out along other areas of the North Gully over the next few months."
The King Street fording has proved especially problematic to motorists and pedestrians when it rains, as floodwaters, silt and debris sometimes render sections of the roadway impassable. Some residents of Montego Bay have staged protests in the past, demanding that the problems with the King Street Fording be corrected.
