National age group record broken on first day
published: Sunday | February 2, 2003

'Y' SPEEDOS' eight and under girls 200 metres freestyle relay team of Raynae Hall, Alexia Royal-Eatmon, Liana Llewelyn and Brittany Bartley broke three records on day one of the Karl Dalhouse Memorial swim meet at the National Stadium pool.

With a time of 2:35.78 they broke the national age group, the all-comers age group and meet records.

Other meet records were broken by Matthew Stewart - one in the 13 and over 400 metres freestyle and another in the boys' 13 and over 200 metres freestyle that he shared with his Tornadoes teammates.

'Y' Speedos Swim Club, led by their top senior swimmers Todd Johnson and Lemone Lowe will be using the depth of their younger swimmers to hold off the strong challenge from the Tornadoes Swim Club.

Swimmers from Cayman, Aruba, Curacao and Panama are taking part in this the eighth renewal of the meet.

After good swims, 24 events and stiff competition from Aruba Dolphins, defending champions 'Y' Speedos stayed ahead of the field with 382 points, followed by Tornadoes with 335.50 points and Stingrays (Cayman) 75.50 points.

Tornadoes lead the newly incorporated Masters category with 29 points from 'Y' Speedos who have 25.

The Masters' swimmers are competing for their own prize, the Karl Dalhouse Masters' Trophy.

Masters level swimmers entered in the meet range from past international representatives to relative beginners. The introduction of Masters into local competitions was done for the first time at last year's meet when they had to compete alongside the age-groupers.

The meet ends today. Action starts at 9:00 a.m. and is scheduled to culminate at 1:00 p.m with presentation of trophies and other awards.
