One love
published: Tuesday | February 4, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

TO ALL the readers, leaders and employers, as I sat watching the National Prayer Breakfast, the twenty-third of its kind, I had to ask the question? "Are we our brothers keeper?"

I look back before Independence and remember the people who care Rev. Hugh Sherlock, Elias Issa, Abe Issa, Rev. R.O.C. King, Norman Manley, Alexander Bustamante, etc. Today, nobody cares, so, Jamaica and all its people are going to waste.

As a boy, I can remember Kingston. We could walk the streets and lanes from Six Miles, Spanish Town Road to Bull Bay and you would be greeted with a smile, and something to eat if you are hungry. If you went to the country, you would be welcomed with love. Today, you are told to call the police.

I am calling on all Jamaicans to wake up.

"Out of many we are 'One'," Robert Marley said, "One love". I am calling on all our leaders to tell the nation the truth and let us all act responsibly to build a better and loving nation under God. We are a strong people, we are leaders, we can motivate others to build a better world. Rise up Jamaicans let us go forward with "One Love".

I am, etc.,

LLOYD HAYE
