What is our contingency plan?
published: Monday | February 10, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WAR IS inevitable. This is the view of the American Government. It seems to me that whether or not Iraq provides evidence of not having weapons of mass destruction, the war will take place anyway.

What is our contingency plan if this war takes place? We are heavily dependent on the United States of America for food, medicine and a wide range of commodities. It seems to me that when the war is in progress, we would certainly be at a disadvantage, as would most other developing countries.

Would we still be able to get our regular supplies of food, medicine etc.? I hardly think so. I believe that we should now be looking at alternate sources or making contingent arrangement for supplies of the very basic commodities.

I need to hear about the contingency plans being made by our Government.

I am, etc.,
