NPL teams advance
published: Monday | February 10, 2003

ALL FOUR National Premier League (NPL) teams advanced to the round of 16 in the Jamaica National Building Society Federation Cup Knock Out competition following wins in the return leg of the second round of the competition.

Rivoli United matched their first leg win to whip Foster Youth 5-0 for 10-0 aggregate win. For them Graham and Marvin Henry had two strikes each while Patrick Beech followed up his hat-trick with a lone strike.

At Jarrett Park Wadadah ended with a 10-2 aggregate win over Black Diamond as they won their second leg 4-1.

Bull Bay who took a 1-0 lead into their game against Israel won 3-1 yesterday for a 4-1 aggregate. In a game plagued by errors Christopher Wright opened the scoring for Bull Bay in the 23rd minute before Amaguan added a second in the 76th.

Dwayne Smith gave Israel a glimmer of hope in the 83rd minute when he fired home a rebound from inside the 18-yard box. Raphael Bellefante put all fears to rest latching onto a pass from Nicholas Dodd and finishing delightfully on the stroke of full time.

Constant Spring were their usual inconsistent self as after going into their game with an 11-1 lead, played to a 4-4 draw with Downs for a 15-5 win.

Like Rivoli, Harmony followed up their first leg 4-0 win with a similar scoreline over Central with Paulington Johnson hitting the back of the net twice in the game at Elletson Wakeland.

In other games JDF outscored Black Lion 7-4, Russia edged Axum 1-0 and Kaiser had a similar win over Santos.

At Elleston Wakeland Complex Harmony of Trelawny moved on to the round of 16 by demolishing Central of Hanover 4-0 to take a 8-0 aggregate triumph.

Harmony's goals came from Paulington Johnson's double in the 15th and 75th minutes along with Derron Myles getting on the scoresheet in the 16th, and Troy Smith in the 83rd minute.

In a scrappy encounter more like a Sunday evening community 'pickup' game at best, both teams played far below Federation Cup standard. There were some outstanding individuals, however. Harmony's Paulington Johnson played well while Delano Jacobs of Central impressed with some excellent dribbles.

YESTERDAY'S GAMES:

Bull Bay 3 Israel 1 (4-1)

Downs 4 Constant Spring 4 (15-5)

Kaiser 1 Santos 0 (3-2)

JDF 7 Black Lion 4 (9-5)

Wadadah 4 Black Diamond 1 (10-2)

Foster Youths 0 Rivoli 5 (0-10)

Russia 1 Axum 0 (3-0)

Harmony (Trelawny) 4 Central 0 (8-0)
