Wharves takeover bid falters
published: Tuesday | February 11, 2003

FOUR TRUSTEES of Kingston Port Workers Superannuation Fund (KPWSF) have resigned with immediate effect, according to a release from the Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ) last night.

The four are Charles Johnston, the Fund's board chairman; Roger Hinds of Trans-ocean Shipping Limited; Hylton Clarke of Maritime and Transport Limited; and Grantley Stephenson, a director of Jamaica Fruit and Shipping Company Limited. The SAJ is the authority which regulates the Fund.

The SAJ said new trustees will be appointed shortly and these new appointees are not involved in litigation with Kingston Wharves.

The Fund is one of several entities which has sought to change the composition of the board of directors of the Grace, Kennedy-controlled Kingston Wharves. An extraordinary general meeting of Kingston Wharves has been called for February 18 to determine the matter.

Among the members who have been proposed for removal from Kingston Wharves' board are: Douglas Orane, Robert Kinlocke, Peter C. Bitter, Christopher Bovell, Mark J. Golding, O.K. Melhado, John Allgrove and Anthony Chang.

Those being proposed to replace them are: Roger Hinds, Kris Astaphan, Lance Hylton, Kim Clarke, Harry Maragh, Grantley Stephenson, Brian Young, Charles Johnston and Ravi Rambarran.
