By Paul A. Reid, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU:

THE STRIKE by government-paid teachers has forced a change of dates for the County of Cornwall Athletics Association's (COCAA) Western Athletics Championships.

At an emergency meeting called on Saturday during the Milo Western Relays at the Catherine Hall Stadium, it was decided to push back the dates of the girls' eliminations and the finals.

The there-day event will now get underway on Thursday with the boys eliminations at Herbert Morrison.

The girls elimination which was shifted from Mannings to St Elizabeth Technical will now be staged next Tuesday, February 18 with the finals set for Catherine Hall the following Tuesday, February 25.

Albert Town High have switched from Central Champs and will be taking part in Western Champs for the first time in nearly 10 years and will bring to 18 the number of teams that have sent in entries for the boys eliminations.

Sixteen girls teams have sent in entries.

Munro are the defending champions in the boys' section and will be seeking their 10th title in 11 years while St. Elizabeth Technical will defend the girls' crown.
