THE EDITOR, Sir:
WHILE THE police are busy fighting crime and violence, their major concerns are basically reducing murder - killing or gun-related violence, which has escalated tremendously. As much as I commend the police for their effort, I think little or nothing is done re the recovery of stolen vehicle.
I am a victim of such circumstances from December 14, 2002. I have made several reports to different hierarchies of police and to date nothing has been done. Don't they follow up on these incidents. A phone call is always welcome.
I personally think the efforts of the police in regards to stolen vehicle are extremely minimal. Is this not a major crime? I believe that there is a major stolen car ring here in Jamaica. Why does the government along with the security forces allow this to continue? Why can't they do something about it? Why do fellow Jamaicans who witness and know the culprits not come forward?
What do you say to a Jamaican whose car has been stolen which was uninsured for theft? What do you say to a single trying mom who has invested her life savings in this vehicle? With the status of the economy what positive advice can one give? I would like the professional or the relevant authorities to advise me accordingly because I feel as if I am losing it.
I am, etc.,
