THE EDITOR, Sir:
THIS IS a formal complaint, which I term "Gross dereliction of duty" by workers at the National Water Commission (NWC) covering the Ensom City community in St. Catherine.
On the 13th of September 2002, I phoned the NWC's office -- 984-2210 and was transferred to operations when I reported a water leakage and was given a reference number 200-209-1302/94. The water leaks from a pipe channelled to the premises at 6 Gary Drive, Ensom City. Water flows onto the walkway and by length of time has grown morass, which is very slippery.
Workmen from the NWC had been on Gary Drive carrying out other repairs and their attention was directed to the leak but they failed to attend to same as they claim they had no instruction to do so.
On the 28th of January 2003 an NWC van with men therein came and looked at the leak at about 11:45 a.m. but said they were going to lunch and return. They did not.
I will mention that the leak is not a large one but, the water that is being wasted could supply more than two families, and the morass grown on the walkway can cause unsuspecting persons to slip, slide and injure themselves.
It is imperative that personnel understand that small things eventually become big things. One who is incapable of dealing with small things cannot be competent with big things.
This leak, to this very time of writing, has not been fixed, although I called NWC over ten to fifteen times since the first report.
I am, etc.,
