SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:
THE PORTMORE Community Tourism Organisation is to hold a top level meeting today, at the Rodney's Arms Complex on Port Henderson Road to discuss eco-tourism development in Portmore.
Deputy director of the organisation, Yvonne Bicknell, told The Gleaner that the meeting is called against the background of a major tourism development thrust for Portmore.
With the pending Portmore municipality elections set for March this year, Miss Bicknell said Portmore need to get all sectors plan in order and eco-tourism must be on the agenda.
One of the major plan for the group this year is the training of 100 tour guides in the Kingston, Portmore and Spanish Town Metropolitan communities. "With or without the support of the Ministry of Tourism and its agencies, we will be providing training in tour guiding and community tourism and these training will be free of cost to the community", Mrs. Bicknell said.
Another project she said will be the acquiring of one building on the Rodney's Arms Property to establish a craft village and craft training centre.
The meeting which will be attended by several members of the National Youth and Community Tourism Action team will commence at 4 p.m.
