Brutal murder in MoBay
published: Tuesday | February 18, 2003

By Adrian Frater, News Editor

WESTERN BUREAU:

A MONTEGO Bay man, who reportedly fled the city after being implicated in a murder two years ago, was shot and killed gangland-style along Hart Street yesterday morning, when he paid a visit to his old neighbourhood.

When The Gleaner visited the murder scene, scores of curious onlookers were observed standing over the body sprawled alongside the Oneness Plaza, which runs adjacent to Hart Street. On seeing his face, some of the onlookers identified him as 'U Roy', who they said once lived on Hart Street.

"Some people said he was involved in a killing in the area two years ago and had fled the area," said one of the young men. "Him used to be a Hart Street man, but he got 'hot' and left the area. This is the first time I am seeing him in over a year."

According to persons who witnessed the incident, 'U Roy' was seen speeding down Hart Street at about 10:15 a.m. with two men carrying handguns in pursuit. On reaching the vicinity of the Oneness Plaza, the gunmen reportedly fired several shots at him and he stumbled and fell. On seeing that he had fallen, the attackers reportedly turned around and walked away.

In confirming the incident, the Montego Bay police identified the dead man as Nathaniel Thomas, who they claimed was wanted in connection with the murder of Leon 'Sample Man' Miller, who was killed on Hart Street on January 4, 2001. A warrant was issued for his arrest, but it was never executed because the police were not able to locate him.
