PM to address concerns of St Augustine students
published: Tuesday | February 18, 2003

THE PRIME Minister has assured Jamaican students attending the St. Augustine campus of the University of the West Indies that a team of officials, including representatives of the Students' Loan Bureau, will visit the campus shortly, to assess their concerns about the potential increase in fees for medical students, boarding grants as well as other specific concerns.

Prime Minister Patterson gave this assurance last Thursday, during a meeting of the Jamaican Students' Association in Trinidad and Tobago (JaSATT). Mr. Patterson was in Trinidad for the 14th Inter-Sessional Meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government.

The executive of JaSATT has been asked to forward as much information as possible to the Jamaican High Commissioner in Trinidad. This information will be sent to the Government to assist in determining the composition of the team to visit the campus.

Prime Minister Patterson said the team will also visit students at the Cavehill campus in Barbados, who have raised concerns similar to those being experienced by students at St. Augustine.
