Proposals invited for KCT phase IV

THE Port Authority of Jamaica is now inviting proposals from qualified local and international engineering firms for the development of phase four of the Kingston Container Terminal.

The Authority has been advertising to identify engineering firms with the capability of providing all the engineering services required to design and supervise the reconstruction of the North Terminal Berth at KCT.

The project involves the reconstruction of 610 metres of berth at the North Terminal and 90 metres of additional berth at the South Terminal, with draughts of 15.25 metres. The berths are to be designed to accommodate eight 65 long-tons electrically powered rail mount gantry cranes and is to include all sub-structures, ducts, cables and superstructures to facilitate crane operations.

Phase three of the KCT development was completed in 2001, at a cost of approximately US$105 million. That expansion has provided an additional 14 hectares of paved storage area, 542 metres of berthing space as well as modern equipment including four ship-to-shore Super Post-Panamax cranes;12 straddle carriers; six trailer trains as well as 192 reefer plugs for accommodating refrigerated
containers.
