CHINA SHIPPING Container lines, which ranks among the world's top container carriers, plans to increase its total shipping capacity to 250,000 Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit (TEUs), by the year 2005. China Shipping currently has a capacity of 120,000 TEUs.
The President, Le Kelin, announced this goal, as he addressed nearly 100 of the Lines worldwide agent-representatives at the Line's 2003 Global Agency Meeting to review China Shipping performance for the previous year and set performance targets for next year.
The meeting was held from January 27 to 29 in Shanghai China, with more than 70 countries represented. The Marketing and Sales Manager, Christine Johnston represented Jamaica Freight and Shipping, the local agents for China Shipping.
As he welcomed the delegates, Mr. Kelin expressed appreciation for "their great effort in 2002" to overcome various obstacles and promote the container business of the China Shipping Group.
Commenting on the meeting, Mrs. Johnston said the occasion gave her an opportunity to meet personnel from China Shipping as well as other agents. "It makes it easier and more effective to communicate with people that you have met face to face", Mrs. Johnston remarked.
China Shipping Group (China Shipping) was founded in 1997 and is owned by the Government of China. It operates, among other business, five specialised shipping fleets of oil tankers, tramps, passenger ships, container vessels and special cargo ships.
