FORMER inter-secondary champions Calabar High scored three wins on the track at last Saturday's 27th Gibson Relays.

Now prepared by former Jamaica College champion coach Michael Clarke, Calabar won the Class 4 4x100m and 4x200m and the Class 2 4x100m in a very close finish from St. George's College.

The Class 4 sprint quartet clocked a record 48.07 seconds in the 4x100m to finish ahead of Morant Bay 48.36 and Campion College, 48.47. They then ran away with the 4x200m in 1:40.70 ahead of Herbert Morrison, 1:42.81.

The Class 2 sprint quartet scored a cheeky win running out of lane one. Their anchor man celebrated too early and was almost nabbed on the line by St. George's College. The winners clocked 43.30 to St. George's 43.31.

Camperdown completed the Class 1 double adding the 4x200m to their 4x100m title. They won in 1:26.91 with JC second in 1:27.74 and Vere third in 1:28.99.

Holmwood Technical's boys and girls took four of the eight championship events.

Holmwood girls lifted the under-19 4x100m NCB sponsored Championship event and JNBS sponsored 4x400m in 3:47.75 ahead of Vere Technical 3:48.79 and Edwin Allen 3:49.61.

Like their female counterparts, Holmwood took the boys 4x800m (7:46.68) and the very exciting 4x400m (3:18.07) to bring the curtain down on the meet but not before they were voted the best relay winners.

Edwin Allen took the Citibank-sponsored girls 4x800m Championship event, winning in a 8:55.22 way ahead of Holmwood and Tacius Golding.

Jamaica College were also double winners with wins in the Class 2 and 3 4x200m events.

Four records were broken and one equalled.

In addition to Calabar's Class 4 sprint mark Hydel Prep, running in the section two of the 4x100m finals, registered 51.48 seconds, erasing a less than three minute record of 52.33, set by Lannamans Prep in the first section.

John Mills Primary stopped the clock at 51.69 seconds in the primary under-12 event a hundredth of a second faster than Mico's 51.70 set in 1978.

Germaine Mason also took the time to equal Dennis Ferron eight-year record of 2.20m in the men's open high jump.
