Talk show host unfair on pay issue
published: Saturday | March 1, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:
KINDLY ALLOW me space to state my observation of a certain talk show host's way of reasoning. When politicians are severely criticised for taking obscenely large increases on their already hefty pay packages, she claims that they and their families will starve if they don't do it.

But when a poor teacher with two children in school, with an unemployed spouse, and who takes home less than $10,000 each month demand better wages for his/her 20-odd years of service, she claims that the Government just cannot afford it, and that if the teachers get their demand, everyone else will be demanding the same!

Why not suggest that politicians roll back their pay?
