Farmer shot dead in Trelawny
published: Saturday | March 1, 2003

WESTERN BUREAU:

A FARMER was shot and killed at his home in Joe Hut, Trelawny yesterday morning by three men wearing masks who had earlier identified themselves as policemen and ordered him to open his door.

The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) officer, reported that Carlton Brown, 39 years, was at the house with his wife about 2 a.m. when the men went there. The men, one of whom was armed with a shotgun, reportedly called out that they were policemen and ordered him to allow them inside the dwelling. He was shot in the right side of his chest when he opened the door and the men fled on foot in the area. Brown's wife was unharmed

No motive has been established for the murder, which is the third homicide for Trelawny since 2003.

The three masked men were also figured in a series of robberies in Joe Hut between Thursday night and the time of Brown's murder. At least five persons were reported as victims of these assaults from which the gunmen stole $11,000 in cash and several items of jewellery.
