SANTA CRUZ, St. Elizabeth:
THE DECOMPOSING body of 21-year-old Dandeen Johnson who went missing on Tuesday, was found washed up at the side of the river at Jones Top, Lacovia District, St. Elizabeth Friday morning.
The body was discovered about 6 a.m. by a resident known only as Chineyman, who had gone to retrieve his fish pot.
Johnson of Mile Gully, Manchester, had gone to St. Elizabeth to visit a friend.
The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) has reported that at about 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday Johnson accompanied his friend to cut log wood. His friend reportedly swam across the river to the other side to cut the wood. On his return the deceased and the rope they had brought with them were missing.
A search was conducted by local divers and members of the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard but that proved futile.
The police who were on the scene at about 10 o'clock, waited until about 1 p.m. for the family of the deceased to arrive but when they did not show, the police ordered men from Brown's Funeral Home to remove the body from the river.
The irate family members and friends who arrived about 15 minutes later, are claiming that Johnson was hanged by his friend. This has not been confirmed.
