Parchment and BertramCLAREMONT:
JAMAICA LABOUR Party (JLP) Member of Parliament for North West St. Ann, Verna Parchment, has won her battle with former Minister of Local Government and MP Arnold Bertram for control of the ex-MP's office.
Bertram built the office before the last general election but questions were raised about the use of Government funds to build it and also ownership of land.
The former minister deemed the office that of the Member of Parliament and strongly defended the case for Government funds being used to build it.
However, when Parchment defeated him by more than 200 votes in the October 16 General Election and claimed the right to occupy the office, it resulted in a war of words between supporters of the PNP and JLP.
Mrs. Parchment told The Gleaner that after consulting with the Minister of Land and the Environment, Dean Peart, she was given the green light to take over the office on Thursday, February 27.
She said she would soon set a date for its official opening and promised that it would be used to serve the people of North West St. Ann.
