published: Tuesday | March 11, 2003

TWO PEOPLE were killed and one other injured when gunmen fired shots at them on Penwood Road, Kingston 11 on Sunday.

According to the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN), two men identified only as "Ricky" and "Wayne" were killed and a 19 year old unidentified woman shot and injured in a yard on Penwood Road. The CCN said the three were in the yard at about 1:30 a.m. when a number of men armed with guns entered. The gunmen reportedly opened fire hitting all three persons. The men, identified as "Ricky" and "Wayne," died on the spot, while the injured woman was taken to hospital where she was admitted in stable condition.

The St Andrew South Homicide Team, which is investigating has not yet established a motive for the killings.

An eighteen year old youth was arrested for breaches of the Firearms Act in Mona Heights, St Andrew on Saturday.

Charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition is Daniel Edwards, of Mona Commons, Kingston 7.

CCN reported that at about 10:30 p.m., a police party was on patrol in the area when Edwards was seen. His actions aroused the suspicion of the police and he was accosted and searched. A German Burgo .22 revolver, with serial number 754213, and three rounds of ammunition were taken from him. Edwards was subsequently arrested and charged. The Matilda's Corner police are investigating.
