Citizens' reactions to incidents
published: Friday | March 14, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM totally at a loss to understand why people will resort to blocking the roads as a protest against a police shooting in Negril recently. The residents in the community have got to learn to take their complaints through the proper channels.

In these exceptionally difficult times for tourism, one does not want to upset or in any way inconvenience visitors to the island by limiting or denying them free movement. Jamaica is a beautiful and very seductive place but there are numerous other attractive locations worldwide that are also competing for the tourist dollars.

The conclusion is, citizens need to exercise caution in the way they react to incidents in their communities. In the interest of doing some good they may be damaging the very means of their livelihood.

I am, etc,
