THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE GET-TOUGH policy adopted by the United States which is threatening to refuse entry to corrupt foreign officials, and even arrest them - should serve as a call to action for us in Jamaica, to do all we can against this deadly scourge.
It would be a blot on Jamaica's international reputation were any of our public officials to be subjected to such treatment. The government of Prime Minister P.J. Patterson, must do everything in its power to weed out of his administration, and party, any official so tainted.
This would be an ideal way of reinforcing the ideals embodied in his recently launched Values and Attitudes project.
The fight against corruption must occur at all levels, however. Citizens who have knowledge of corrupt public officials must present their evidence to the authorities. Citizens and others, who do business with the government, have a similar obligation.
If we all commit ourselves to this noble ideal, we will demonstrate to the world that we as a people are as beautiful as the country we occupy.
I am, etc.,
