IN AN address at the recent annual sales awards ceremony, president and chief executive officer of Life of Jamaica (LOJ), Maxine MacLure praised the performance of the company's sales force, indicating that their spectacular achievements had been the main propellant for the exceptional production results registered over the period.
The president, herself celebrating just above a year at the helm of a new LOJ, noted the many changes, which took place during 2002. In describing the new LOJ, Ms. MacLure said that the company had emerged as the top insurance company in the island and a focal member of the new Sagicor Financial Group.
"We are indeed now a new Life of Jamaica, we are stronger than ever before, we are the major life insurance company in Jamaica and now we are the major company in a financial group that is a dominant player in the wider context of the Caribbean marketplace."
She said that when the sales achievements for the past year were examined, they were in fact an indicator of the superb performance of the production stars contributing to the present position of strength enjoyed by the company.
Recounting some of the numbers, she said that in Individual Life the score was $284 m of new annualised premium, which was 107 per cent of target, conservation rate was 80.7 per cent up from 78.9 per cent in the previous year and an astronomical $2.41 b of gross premium income (GPI) confirming LOJ as the leading insurance company in Jamaica way ahead of the nearest competitor's GPI of 1.36 billion.
Promising that the unaudited returns for 2002 due shortly, would result in elated Lifers, Ms. MacLure commended the sales force for their tremendous feat.
Albert Lyon, Court of the Table awardee, from the Ellesmere Branch, entered agent of the year, earning the Outstanding Individual Sales Achievement Award, with a whopping figure of $10 million annual new premiums sold. Walter Grant from the Liguanea Branch copped the second place, however, these two agents over the past four years have alternately earned the top stop in a phenomenal seesaw placing of first and second in this race of high achievers.
Included in the special awards conferred at the ceremony at the Hilton Hotel were Rookie of the Year, won by Natoya Morrison from the Corporate Circle Branch, the President's Trophy won by the Mandeville Branch, the Unit Manager's Trophy earned by Aaron Greaves from the Spanish Town Branch, the Danny Williams Trophy won by Walter Grant and top cat, Albert Lyons receiving also the Pansy Ennevor Trophy and the Life of Jamaica Trophy.
