THE EDITOR, Sir:
THIS E-MAIL was sent to my eldest son, as I got news that he was deployed this morning as he is an M.P. in the U.S. Army:
"Brad: I am not sure when you will get this, but Happy 22nd birthday, 'big' son. Today is a monumental day as you head off to Kuwait. The family and all our friends will keep you in our prayers, as you know there has been a great deal of concern for your safety from everyone who knows you.
As you and I have discussed many times before, be careful, and take nothing for granted, rely on your training and as usual remember to ask God for guidance.
We all need to remember that we cannot believe in God sometimes, we must believe in him all the time. I am especially proud of you as your commitment to an honourable life and job is the most a father can ask for.
We look forward to your safe return and may God watch over and guide you and all the men and women that have to participate in this unfortunate conflict.
All our love as always. Daddy, Aunty and Cameron."
I am, etc.,
