PETER MOO-YOUNG topped the Jamaica Table Tennis Association's trials at UWI's Rex Hall last week. The trials were held to help select a four-man team to represent Jamaica at the Latin American Championships in El Salvador from April 1-9.
Moo-Young won five of his six matches to finish ahead of Nigel Webb (4-2), second, Christopher Marsh, third (4-2), Gavin Hylton, fourth (4-2), and Darryl Strachan, fifth (3-3).
National champion Michael Hyatt, who was invited to the trials, was in the United States at the time of the event. However, he was given an exemption based mainly on his performance in last year's overseas tournaments after he explained that he would have been unable to attend because of business commitments.
The trial results will be used to select three players to join Hyatt to form the team to represent the island at the Latin American Championships, which will also serve as trials for individuals to qualify to play singles and doubles in the Pan American Games in the Dominican Republic in August.
Meanwhile, this year's Business House table tennis competition is scheduled to start next month. Entries are now being taken by the JTTA.
The defending team champions, JPS (male) and Windalco (female), have already entered along with Cable & Wireless, Ministry of Health, Windalco and Alpart (male), while female teams already entered are Windalco and Cable & Wireless.
Taams wishing to participate are being asked to contact Marcia Brown at 936-2657 or 819-5617 or Justin Allen at 961-7138 or 819-8066.
