US better watch out
published: Tuesday | March 25, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE 9/11 attack has done more economic damage than those in Washington are admitting. So too is the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. The US is now focusing the world so much on their military superiority that the economic damage is now forgotten. The Israeli economy is now in its worst economic crisis (bbc.com, 20.03.2003). The Americans will now have to be careful that they are not now playing into the hands of the enemy. The enemy would have wanted a panic reaction from America and I am afraid that this is happening.

If the war is illegal then America becomes a criminal also. It will lose moral authority and be on its own. The American enemies have, therefore, scored two vital points. They have damaged the American economy and George W. Bush has panicked. He has now abandoned leadership of the world and is now chasing after another bin Laden. Bear in mind that they have not found the first one, and this time America is on its own.

The American promises of aid after the war is, therefore, suspect and I don't think they are as confident as they appear to be. They are panicking.

I am, etc.,
