Manchester , Clarendon police divisions need proper ID parade facility
published: Tuesday | March 25, 2003

By Rayon Dyer, Freelance Writer

BLACK RIVER:

COMMANDING OFFICER, for the St. Elizabeth police division, Herman "Chucky" Brown, say the one way mirror in the parish also serves the parishes of Manchester and Clarendon whenever they have accused persons for identification parade. He said that both parishes used the facility on a weekly basis.

Speaking in an interview with The Gleaner on Monday, March 24, Mr. Brown said, "We don't have a problem when an accused person is to go on an identification parade, because this division has a one way mirror. As a matter of fact, the one way mirror here was being used by Manchester and Clarendon divisions, as both parishes were without such a facility."

Supt. Brown also confessed that the parish of Manchester has been accessing the services of the one way mirror more than Clarendon, reason being that the Manchester police was arresting suspicious persons at a faster rate than Clarendon.

Addressing the matter of illegal street vending in the parish, he said,. "We are endeavouring to keep the streets of the major towns clean and free from illegal vending. As you will notice, we have started the removal process in Santa Cruz, Black River and Junction. However, it will continue in the other main areas of the parish. He said that the police is committed to maintaining order on the streets of St. Elizabeth.

The Commanding Officer also stated that the police will not be letting up on the fight against illegal drugs and guns in the division. He said a week ago a 9mm pistol and five live rounds were recovered at the border of St. Elizabeth and Westmoreland. Mr. Brown, said that the aim to rid the parish of hard drugs such as cocaine was also one of the lawmen's plans.
