JAMAICA'S SUNSHINE Girls are today expected to do something they have never done in international netball - defeat world champions Australia.
Both teams meet in the third practice match of the Australians' two-week tour at the G.C. Foster College this afternoon at 4:30 and many, including top coach Winston Nevers, anticipate a Jamaica victory.
"I think Jamaica will beat Australia in the next game. I really think so. Australia are an excellent side but they have flaws and I believe the Jamaican coach has picked up on these weak areas and will capitalise on it," Nevers said.
He gave his opinion at the end of the practice match between a Berger select team and the Australians at G.C. Foster College yesterday that the visitors won 75-28.
Australia will have its full compliment of players to pick, choose and refuse from with substitute shooter Sharelle McMahon back in uniform.
McMahon has suffered a mild ankle injury during the team's match against a select Jamaica Under-21 side last Friday but she was ruled fit to play by the team's physiotherapist Leanne MacHielse.
Aussie coach Jill McIntosh is again looking forward to the encounter with the local seniors.
"After Sunday's match I'm sure this next is going to be tough. Today's (yesterday's) game gave us an opportunity to try more combinations and give us some options.
"We're certainly looking forward to meeting the Jamaicans again. We're curious to see what they have in store for us this time," she said.
