Pulsating and crazy mood at Magaritaville

THE PLACE to be last Friday night was Magaritaville on Glouchester Avenue, Montego Bay. There was a pulsating and crazy mood at the venue located on the 'Hip-Strip', as people from all walks of life came out to enjoy themselves.

Mix Master Marvin of Renaissance Disco and Fame FM was the disc jockey on hand and he proved that he had what it takes to get a party started right. The selector mixed various genres of music to near perfection, getting approval from the audience with each song he played.

When The Gleaner entered the venue at about 11 p.m. the 'lone ranger' had already created a pulsating tempo and the bartenders were working feverishly to quench the thirst of the 'multitude' gathered at the bar area. The trips to the bar would continue unabated.

Nelly's Hot in Heere, Mystikal's Danger and Michael Jackson's You Rock My World were thumping from speakers positioned all over the packed and seductively-lit venue.

Patrons could be seen doing their own thing, with most of the dance styles seen being unique and extremely rare. It was difficult to stand still even if that was one's initial intention as the beats seemed to break down all resistance.

It became easy to differentiate Jamaicans from other nationalities when Mix Master Marvin began to mix-in some dancehall music. A Beenie Man medley comprising of songs such as Slam, Girl Dem Sugar and Old Dawg was enough to get the Jamaican massive going wild.

Marvin showed that he possesses class by mixing Michael Jackson's You Rock My World on the Diwali rhythm. A slew of sexually-oriented songs was then reeled off by the disc jockey. Capleton's Tek Off Di Draws and Beenie Man's Red Red Red were obviously the favourites judging by the crowd reaction.

Other highlights of the night's proceedings was the 'sexiest thong contest', which was won by the Jamaican representative, and a fashion show, which saw Fu Jon models modelling fashions by Carl Sway Designs, Image Wear and Felicity Designs.

With the patrons being judges, the thong contest, which had a US$100 prize package, got underway with representatives from the United States, and other countries, including Spain, participating.

The Spring Breakers then began to strut their stuff as patrons of both genders screamed in approval. Some fervent males who positioned themselves at the front of the stage especially for the occasion, banged on the stage floor, venting the sexual tension that was extremely high.
