Are we biting the hand that feeds us?

THE EDITOR, Sir:
THERE ARE many countries which currently oppose the US and its 40-country coalition now supporting military action in Iraq. Countries are entitled to their views and many have been vocal at the UN debates, expressing their opinion in votes, one way or the other.
However, in all the news I've been reading, the Jamaican Government is now emerging as one of the more anti-US in its official sentiments, joining countries in the Middle East which traditionally oppose the US in every form. It is one thing to refuse to support, and express reasons why, it's quite another to 'denounce' and 'condemn', and issue bad boy threats against a country we are highly dependent on.
How can we 'bite the hand that feed us'? It's not what you say, but how you say it, diplomacy prevails, regardless of public opinion of the man in the street who can easily get away with making the most brutal comments. We should exercise caution in our official statements from the Government.
