SEVENTY-TWO WYNDHAM Rose Hall employees stood out in the year 2002, but one edged the others by raising the bar in outstanding service, dedication and commitment to take home the coveted Employee of the Year Award.
Nasharee Clarke-Linton, guest services agent is the star batswoman, who has scored the highest rounds in the 'Through Ownership and Pride Together We Can Achieve' theme adopted by the 480-room hotel.
"This young woman goes above and beyond the call of duty, she is the type of individual who will say she is not going home until everything is completed," commented Carmelita Olverson, director of human resources of the resort.
Nasharee's prizes valued at $250,000 wasn't an easy task, as she faced extremely stiff competition from a group of team players who were recognised for exemplary performance in carrying out commendable acts.
Recognition of distinguishing traits was bestowed upon a number of persons who went outside of their normal duties to satisfy the guests.
Seon Smith went to the food market to buy extra papayas for some guests who could only eat that type of fruit; Trecia Grandison noticed that a guest's denture was falling out and purchased Fixodent without being asked; and Davion Roache worked in the pantry even when it was flooded.
But what really motivates these people to 'walk the walk' and 'talk the talk' of ownership, without blinking an eyelid?
And what prompts several thousands of guests' comments cards that readily commends Gregory Hall for providing excellent service, readily recognises repeat customers and is a credit to the Wyndham Way.
Guest speaker Fae Ellington had the answer to several of these questions, "something good is happening on this property. An employee award ceremony is particularly significant, it tells a story not just about the employee, but also about the employer," she remarked.
According to the eloquent motivational speaker, recognition in a very special way is of paramountcy, something money doesn't necessarily satiate. "The ones being awarded today distinguished themselves from the pack by realising there is always room for improvement," she added.
At the end of an exciting evening, a special smile award was given to Stacy-Ann Blair, who reportedly brightens a room naturally and an individual recognition award for service was bestowed on Michael McDonald of Jamaica Audio Visual Company (JAVCO).
Supervisor of the year, Brian Shreeves; first and second runner-ups for Employee of the Year award; Yvonne Findlator, room attendant; and Rohan Thompson, room service, respectively along with the large group of team players took home cash and kind amounting to well over $1,000,000.
