FINALISTS IN this year's Miss Jamaica Universe Beauty Pageant embarked on a whirlwind tour across Jamaica as of last Friday as they give Jamaicans the opportunity to see them up close.

The whirlwind tour of the country is the latest in a series of visits, appearances and rehearsals as the finalists prepare for the Grand Coronation show on Saturday April 5. Eliminations took place two weeks ago at Les Ambassadeurs Restaurant at the Hilton Kingston Hotel.

The contestants will be presented at shows to be held in Ocho Rios and Montego Bay. There will also be fun days, tours and swimsuit appearances by the ladies in other exciting parts of the country, including Negril.

On Friday, the finalists are to be hosted by Sandals Negril where they will enjoy that hotel's hospitality as well as visit the Royal Palm wildlife reserve.

On Saturday, the Rum and Reggae Tours luxury coach transporting the ladies will roll into Montego Bay where they will appear at Jamaica's largest gaming house, Coral Cliff. As guests of Western Jamaica Miss Universe franchise holder Lachu Ramchandani, they will participate in and around Montego Bay. Saturday night will end with a visit to Margueritaville, the Entertainment capital of Western Jamaica.

On Sunday, the finalists head for the Jamaica Grande in Ocho Rios where they will be hosted by that property. A lunchtime swimsuit appearance at that hotel will precede a presentation show at the Ruins. The public is invited to the shows at The Ruins and at Coral Cliff.

The finalists return home on Sunday night where non-stop preparation will continue as they vie for the crown and a chance to win the Miss Jamaica Universe title and the chance to represent their country in the international competition. The Miss Universe coronation, considered as one of the most spectacular pageants in the world will be held in Panama, on June 3.

Travelling with the contestants will be Miss Jamaica Universe Sanya Hughes, pageant officials, hair and make up stylists. A team from TVJ will film and broadcast the activities of the finalists including the winner of their My Jamaican Girl promotion, Debra Deer.

Next week a final whirl of luncheons, dinners, courtesy calls and parties will lead up to the Coronation of the new queen.

The Miss Jamaica Universe is organised and presented by Pulse. It is produced by Uzuri in association with major sponsors Smirnoff Vodka, Church's Chicken, Clairol, Air Jamaica, TVJ, Posner, Neutrogena, the Hilton and North Coast Concrete. Radio sponsors are Zip FM and Megajam. Hair is by Visible Changes, ground transportation by Rum & Reggae tours, swimsuits by The Mushroom and photos by Hot Shots. Gym Khani is the official work out centre for Miss Jamaica Universe and information is available on WhatsonJamaica.com.
