THE EDITOR, Sir:
FIRST OF all, let me say that I deplore Saddam Hussein's repressive and murderous regime. But it would be remiss if I did not express my utter disapproval of the American and British invasion of Iraq.
In watching the American and British troops in Iraq, I can't help feeling that they appear to take a great deal of delight in subduing and humiliating the Iraqi people. Watching their awesome firepower at work is like watching a seven-foot, 300-pound man using a sledgehammer to kill a fly.
The horrific sight of mutilated and dead Iraqis strewn across the landscape sends shivers up and down my spine. My stomach churns and a feeling of anguish grips my entire being as I helplessly watch the mangled bodies of innocent little children in war-torn Iraq. I am overtaken with a feeling of utter despair when I see trembling and weeping women and children held at gunpoint by so-called liberators. I am gripped with a feeling of revulsion when I see fully armed coalition soldiers kicking down the doors of terrified looking men, women, and children.
These are the horrible, disturbing images of war that will certainly stay with me long after the murderous conflict in Iraq.
It is sad to say that in Iraq the word "liberation" seems to have taken on a whole new meaning, for it is certainly not synonymous with the word "freedom." Surely the Iraqi people deserve better than this.
I am etc,
