A diverse Australia

THE EDITOR, Sir:
AS AN Australian residing in Jamaica, I was concerned to read the comment by "MAD" April 4th, which used the term "Australian style segregation", when writing about Island Village, Ocho Rios.
I'm wondering if it was in fact a misprint that should have read "apartheid style segregation", as the phrase used in MAD's letter is so far from the truth.
As a nation Australia is truly multicultural, and delights in the diversity it brings, and as a people, we are unprejudiced and accepting of the differences that spring from colour and creed.
We certainly do NOT live in a segregated society as the words of that letter suggest, and I would be saddened to think that the choice of words would lead other readers to believe so.
