Honouring Clyde Hoyte

THE EDITOR, Sir:
ALLOW ME to publicly thank Rosina Christina Moder, her associates and all others who have recognised and honoured a great West Indian - Clyde Hoyte.
Like so many other outstanding personalities, Clyde came visiting from another land and stayed to give us all a hand. Not only is he musician, singer, composer, and craftsman but also an ardent nationalist and social worker, as well as the longest-serving journalist in this country. He is also the sole surviving announcer of the pioneering radio station ZQI, which later became Radio Jamaica.
Clyde has never fully cashed in on his worth nor sought an IOU for his multitude of unpaid services. However, Jamaica owes much to this talented and gentle man. Thank God that some of us were recently provided an opportunity to salute his work and pay a modest instalment on the debt. I hope that those who consider National Awards will soon do justice to this exemplary elder of our society.
