published: Wednesday | April 16, 2003

THERE WAS an outpouring of grief yesterday as many mourners who went to view the body of the Rev. Cleve Grant wept as they filed past his casket which was open for viewing in the Constant Spring Church of God, St. Andrew.

The body, in a highly-polished mahogany casket and guarded by uniformed members of the Boys' Brigade Movement, was open for viewing for two hours at the church where the Rev. Mr. Grant ministered for 44 years.

The Rev. Mr. Grant died at Andrews Memorial Hospital, Hope Road, St. Andrew, on April 3 after ailing with cancer for some time.

At 1 p.m. today, there will be a service of thanksgiving for his life and work at Olson Hall, Ardenne High School, 10 Ardenne Road, St. Andrew. The casket will be open for viewing prior to the service. Musical and other tributes begin at midday.

The Rev. Mr. Grant gained prominence for his captivating voice on Radio Jamaica's 'Noonday Meditation' in which he offered a prayer for the nation each weekday for almost 20 years.

He became a minister of religion in 1954 and served on many boards including the Church of God in Jamaica, as chairman, the Jamaica Bible College, the National Prayer Breakfast Committee and the Kingston Keswick Convention.
