Parasites gaining the upper hand
published: Wednesday | April 16, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

DURING THE past year, I have had the privilege of meeting and getting acquainted with Mr. Carl Watson. A black Jamaican, he had worked abroad in Saudi Arabia with the Arabian American Oil Company for some 23 years.

Upon returning to Jamaica recently, Mr. Watson invested heavily (both in time and money) in setting up a quarry at Paul Mountain, St. Catherine, and had, after many trials and tribulations in setting up his operation, brought the quarry to the point of economic production.

It was with great shock and horror that I learned that Carl Watson had been shot dead by hold-up men on Friday, April 11, 2003, while returning to his quarry.

Incidents such as this clearly demonstrate why the majority of the population approve of the swift and positive actions of the Anti-Crime Task Force.

The parasites in the society appear to be gaining the upper hand at the moment and this impoverished country cannot afford to destroy our productive citizens such as Carl Watson.

I am, etc.,

GEORGE P. LECHLER, P.E.

Kingston 10
