UNDER THE theme 'Celebrating Women's Leadership', Young Women's Christian Associations
(YWCA) worldwide will tomorrow, host an international breakfast aimed at highlighting
the role of the movement in strengthening leadership skills among women.
Dubbed the 'longest breakfast in the world', the event will be staged in 102 countries where the organisation exists. The local YMCA, founded in 1923, will also join in the two hour breakfast, added to celebrations of its 80th anniversary.
A news release issued by the YWCA noted that Custos of St. Andrew, Bishop Carmen
Stewart, will give the opening address at this year's breakfast, which will
also have a televised address by DR Musimbi Kanyoro, Secretary-general of the
world YWCA.
LEADERSHIP SKILLS
AMONG WOMEN
The breakfast is the first of its kind and is intended to highlight the important role of the YWCA movement in strengthening leadership skills among women.
Hermione McKenzie, national president of the Jamaica YWCA, said that the YWCA engages in a host of activities to encourage women.
"We encourage the youngest through summer camps and other events in leading group activities," Mrs. Mckenzie said.
