By Anthony Henry, Staff ReporterTHE HOSANNA Universal Music (HUM) Ministry will be staging a show to help a mother of three from St. Ann, who has to do phase two of a surgery to reconstruct her face.
The gospel concert, dubbed 'A Spirit of Caring: the Betty-Ann Gallimore Surgery' will be held at the Karram Speid Auditorium at Merl Grove High School at Constant Spring, St. Andrew, tomorrow.
The concert will highlight several top local gospel artistes such as George Gordon, Claude Edwards, Men of Valour, Holda Williams, Royal Roots, Girvan Stewart, Christalee Berry and Gospel Festival entrants Acts, Renee McKnight and Jodi-Ann Pantry.
Monica Gray told The Gleaner that the HUM Ministry is trying to raise US$40,000 for Mrs. Gallimore's surgery. "We expect a good turnout. We need to make this money for her considering that she is so young," Ms. Gray said.
Betty-Ann Gallimore of Brown's Town, St. Ann, did corrective surgery last year August in a Florida hospital on her face to remove some abnormal bone growth.
The 31-year-old woman suffers from a rare bone disorder called Fibrous Dysplasia. It causes bones - mainly in the face - to grow out of proportion, causing the affected person's jaw to become swollen.
In her case, the bones in her face had grown so much that her eyes were being pushed out of her head and had blocked her nostrils. Several of her teeth were removed during the surgery and the second operation is scheduled to replace the teeth, as well as fix her nose and jaw.
