On the NIS issue

THE EDITOR, Sir:
IT WAS indeed very exciting to read Petulia Clarke's report on the National Insurance Scheme's (NIS) pending increase in contributions by the workforce.
As a retired civil servant who contributed to NIS during my years of service, and requested some benefit from the scheme by submitting the required paper work, without even the common courtesy of a reply from that office, I wholeheartedly support the increase!
Hopefully, with additional funds, the image of what I have since resigned myself to regard as a huge "vortex" will be dispelled. Maybe I will even get a reply from the NIS Office after now some three years! Who knows?
As a worker, all I am left with is a meaningless NIS number.
