THE EDITOR, Sir:I LOVE the pink and yellow poui trees and anticipate their blooming each year. This year I was not disappointed. In past years their loveliness was captured photographically by your photographer Junior Dowie. This year we had Rosemary Parkinson and Howard Moo Young showing us their beauty through their lenses.
During my early morning commute from Spanish Town to the city I can catch glimpses of that grove of pink pouis on the dividing verge of the dual highway in the vicinity of the Ferry River. Why did the powers that be not plant more pouis along the highway? I miss the Saturday afternoon wedding parties that have photographs taken at the open area east of the river. The area is no longer cared for.
Another of my favourites is the flowering ebony tree. Where I grew up on a property called Ebony Glades (so called because of the density of the trees) my childhood was complete with a mixture of cashew meat and nuts to eat and the glorious perfume of the ebony blossom.
I am, etc.,
