W'house take crack at Village
published: Sunday | April 27, 2003

Nodley Wright, Staff Reporter

ON A full day of matches, the game etween Village United and Waterhouse will take the spotlight. For Village United they would move just one step closer to a semi-final place while their opponents have cash on their minds.

Runaway leaders Hazard United have already secured a sizeable bounty as overall points winners. With their 69 points they cannot be overtaken by nearest rivals Harbour View.

Today they play away to the in-form Constant Spring at Constant Spring and if things continue to flow the way they have been then Hazard are in line to meet Village in one of the semi-finals.

In other games, middle of the table Seba United host relegation favourites Bull Bay while Harbour View host relegation certainties Wadadah at the Harbour View Mini Stadium. The steadily improving Rivoli United who have been pushing themselves away from the relegation zone under the guidance of the master, Bradley Stewart, seek another win over their more fancied rivals, Tivoli Gardens, when both team meet at Prison Oval.

Arnett Gardens, who like Hazard and Harbour View have already qualified for the semi-final round, will be aiming to register their first win over Reno who like Constant Spring are hovering just above the relegation zone.

At Emmet Park, the much-travelled Geoffrey Maxwell will be leading his new team Village United against one of his former teams in Waterhouse. Besides wanting to put one over their former coach, Maxwell believes that Waterhouse will be coming all out to keep alive their chances of a semi-final place which is now on life support.

"They could come pumped up, get carried away and make mistakes which we can capitalise on on," Maxwell said. If Village are to capitalise then they would have to do so without one of their top players in goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts.

Present in their squad though will be Fabian Dawkins and Teofore Bennett, who have been providing them with a lot of goals.

Like Maxwell said, Waterhouse will be gunning for a win but not for a semi-final place.

"We are trying to place as high as possible. We're joint fifth with Tivoli and money is being paid down to fifth. We want to solidify that position," said coach Calvert Fitzgerald, who has given up hopes of a semi-final place.

What he has his eyes on is the $170,000.00.

To give them that booty they will be depending on captain Irvino English Damion Powell, the revived Kevin Lamey, Roberto Fletcher and Damion Williams.
